KC Metal Products, Inc., manufacturer of the "Approved Equal" line of structural hardware products, is not the oldest company in the business. However, as we are approaching our 30th anniversary, something must be said for our ability to continue in this highly competitive market. KC Metal Products, Inc. has remained the largest privately held structural hardware manufacturer. This allows the continuance of a service level geared toward our customers, not our stock holders.
A major area in which KC Metals has excelled is that of keeping the competitiveness in our industry. If we did not continue to actively pursue the manufacture of items similar to the patented ones made by our competitors, the market would quickly become a monopolistic one. The one thing a good patent does insure, is that for 20 years, no other party can produce this same item. This means there are no controls over how high the item is priced, or how quickly it is made available to the user. When a patented item is specified, and no other manufacturer has a replacement item, the customer pays whatever priced is deemed right by the owner of the patent.
It does not take a great deal of thought to figure out where the industry would be headed, if there were no competitors for your business!
